Thai massage is a type of massage performed in Thai style that involves a combination of deep massage and stretching. Thai massage is usually performed on the floor, and comfortable clothes are often worn through the session to provide movement. No oils or creams are used during Thai massage. In Thailand, it is known as "Nuat Phaen Boran", which literally translates as meaning "ancient manner massage".
Recognised and regulated by the government in Thailand, Thai massage is one of the branches of "Traditional Thai Medicine", known as TTM.
Thai massage is considered a medical treatment for a wide range of ailments and health problems. It is also taughtby a number of non-medical massage professionals in the tourism and spa industries throughout the world.
The origins of Thai massage are said to be traced back to Shivago Komarpaj, who is said to have been the Buddha's physician over 2500 years ago.
The history of Thai massage and the path it has taken through the years is slightly more complex than this legend. Thai massage, along its course, has taken influences from Chinese, Indian and Southeast Asian cultures. Even today in Thailand, there is a large variation in the method of Thai massage practised in various regions of Thailand.
Modern Thai massage operates on the theory that the body is permeated with "air" or "lom", which is inhaled into the lungs and which travels throughout the body via thousands of pathways known as "sen" or "vessels". Thai Massage manipulates a number of major sen lines by applying pressure on a points along the sen lines. One significant part of Thai massage includes yoga-like stretches which are intended to simulate the movement of "lom" throughout the body via a pumping action that arises in connection with the patient's breathing.

Location: Santorini, Greece Price: €920.00 Duration: 7 Days Description: This program includes a 1.5 hour session of thai massage on the first day, followed by a course on thai massage specifically for divers. The course lasts 5 days (days 2-6) and will be taking place early in the morning followed by 2 dives per day. On the last day (day 7) there will be a course revision with more practice. This Thai massage course will be focused on breathing, healing the body and relaxing for divers. Our diving expeditions take place primarily in the south and west part of the island, where you can find the mansel reef, the isle of Thirasia with its great wall diving, a wreck at 30-33 m as well as a beautiful area with underwater caves. There are many more diving sites to surprise you with when you come and dive with us. The Thai massage course will be under the instruction of a qualified Thai massage therapist experienced in the principles of yoga, Thai massage and oriental medicine who has practiced in Thailand, India, Nepal, California, Spain and Greece. |
